Saturday Jan 2nd
In honor of out brother Jordan Bunker, SMF has decided to put on an Annual Jordan Bunker
Memorial Game. The first game was a success. Even with about 8 inches of powdered snow on the ground the play was not slowed
down. Snyder picked apart the defense the whole game and led his team to victory 16-10. With the help of Russell Cody and
Pacana Snyder was able to put on an offensive show. Fritz Haug and Miranto made a small comeback at the end but it was not
enough. At the half there was a trade between as Jaccarino was sent to Fritz's team. Then later in the second half an injury
to Russell forced a trade that brought Josh Fritz to Snyders team. In the end no one got seriousl injured and we accomplished
what we came out to do, honor our friend Jordan Bunker.
Thursday November 26th
This years Turkey Bowl was slightly different from years past. For the first time in SMF
history we had too many players. Due to random people showing up along with the usuals this years game was split into a mini
tournament. After two long fought battles Loncar's team faced Miranto's in the championship game. After Snyder got sacked
in the endzone on the first play things didnt look good. Miranto made a switch at QB and brought in Fritz to take over. With
great blocking from Puka and Hazel, Fritz was able to spread the ball around. Key catches were made by Baker and Puka, but
the big plays were made by Miranto and Snyders two cousins. In the end Mirantos team came out on top 7-6 to take the championship.
Sunday Dec 23rd
Anyone who thought that the turkey bowl was a mess should've been there for this years xmas
bowl. Covered in a thin layer of snow the field didnt look that bad until about 5 plays in. Then it turned into a giant
frozen mud puddle. Despite the weather big plays were still made. Rob Heferon took over the QB duties for Lowdens
team and did not dissappoint. While only throwing two INTs Heferon was able to lead his team to victory picking apart the
opposition. Gonyeau Jablonski and Pacana played important roles for the offense and defense. On the other
side Dan Fritz struggled at times under center by throwing 3 INTs that were returned for TD's which swung the momentum of
the game. TJ Baker and Josh Fritz were both able to make some big plays. Baker became the posession receiver for
the team while Josh Fritz snuck behind the defense and was able to haul in two TD catches in a losing effort.
Thursday November 22nd
Turkey Bowl '07 was definately a slop fest. However, the performance on the field as expected
did not dissappoint. With new faces on the field and returning stars from the past it was an event for the ages. Dan
Fritz and Brian Snyder took their draft picks to battle, but in the end Snyder led his team to victory 16-13. They jumped
out to a big lead at halftime 8-3, but Cody Balling decided to take over, as he took several short passes from Fritz for long
gains to get his team back in it. In the later stages of the game Mark Jaccarino proved to be once again an elite deep threat
as he outran the coverage for several touchdowns. Pat Smith took advantage of rookie coverage by Josh Fritz and scored
several TD's as well. Everyone showed up and played as expected, the next awaited SMF appearance is going to be very anticipated.
Sunday December 31st
The last game of 2006 was an interesting one. There was lots of mud, possibly a separated
shoulder, and a mid-game trade. What else could a fan ask for really. QB GM's Pat Smith and Dan Fritz drafted their
teams and the game was on. After Bryan Gonyeau returned the first play of the game into a INT TD, Fritz led his team
to a 4-2 lead, Hitting Tim Bakula, and Justing Gentzke several time on the first few drives. As the game seemed to be
one sided the teams traded QBs. Dan Fritz went to the other team for Pat Smith and a 1st round draft pick in '07.
Fritz inherited star talents such as Cino, Jaccarino, Jablonski, Baker, and Gonyeau, but couldnt overcome the defecit he created
with his old team as Pat Smith and his new team controlled most of the game and won 16-12. Rob Hefferon came in at half
time to play QB and couldnt be stopped as he hit Bakula for several long yardage plays. In the second half Bakula went down
with an injury. A separated shoulder is suspected, MRI results are unkown. For Fritz he utilized TJ Baker's speed
as they hooked up for several big plays. Jaccarino made a comeback and caught a few TD's to get back in his old rhythm.
In the end Bakula Balling and Hefferon led their teams defense and stopped Fritz and three 5th downs forcing a turnover on
downs.
Sunday December 24th
Christmas is the time of giving. Tim Bakula was given his gift a day early this year. It
was second down, 17-17 next TD wins, Bakula ran an out, fritz threw it, Cody tried to knock it down, but the ball was just
out of his reach and Bakula hauled in a shoe string grab for the game winner on Xmas eve morning. With the team of Balling,
Miranto, Jaccarino, Johnson, and Snyder many thought the game would be one sided. Several role players on Fritz's team
stepped up. No one made a louder noise than Pat Smith who proved to be Fritz's go-to receiver when their team needed
a big play. Along with help from Jablonski, Vollmer, Gonyeau, and Bakula, they were able to hold Miranto and Balling
to some big plays instead of a lot of big plays. In one of the best games played in SMF history, everyone stepped up
there game but Fritz's team came out on top 18-17.
Thursday November 21st
Turkey Day, a day of giving thanks, and a time when families get together to stuff themselves
so full that cant move. Also it is a day where old friends get together and dominate the football field for the bragging
rights to say that they are a Turkey Bowl Champion. With a team packed full of size, Fritz, Balling, and Cino proved
they couldnt be stopped. With defensive help from Martinelli Fritzs team dominated the game 18-9. Lowden's team
got off to a slow start as they put themselves in a 7-3 hole. Fritz hit several short strikes to Balling and Cino for
TD's. Never looking back they took the Turkey Bowl by storm and have bragging rights till next year.
Tuesday July 4th
Tuesday Morning, cloudy skies, wet ground, and 13 players. That was the setting for what
could be the final chapter in the great story of sunday morning football. The game started out back and forth between miranto
and pacana, the two captains of their teams, and it appeared a mistake by either team would swing the game around. One
player who made that happen was the free safety Greg Jablonski. Jablonski tallied 7 TD's and 2 INT's in his final debut of
SMF, as he earns MVP honors once again in his career. Jablonski however could not do it alone as Bryan Gonyeau came out of
nowhere to put on the performance of his career. Gonyeau proved his worth by becoming a weapon in Pacanas offense.
Fritz and Miranto couldn't get it done on America Day as they lost this one 16-13.
Monday February 20th
Monday's game might as well be played on concrete, as the frozen ground created problems
with traction, and caused injury after many tackles. Dan Fritz led his team to victory ending his losing streak, but
not as the QB. Fritz started off the game scoring the first 4 TD's for his team and didnt slow down. Fritz finished
the game with 2INT's and 8 TD catches. Fritz however could not have been so successful if it wasnt for the rotation of Pat
Smith, Brian Snyder and Nick Skillington. TJ Baker played a solid role for the team but left at half time due to a stomach
virus. Fritz's team jumped out to an early lead and didn't look back as the won 16-13. Matt Pacana went with a young lineup
as he started 3 rookies in the game. But the tandom of Snyder to Fritz proved too much for the defense.
Wednesday Janurary 4th
Wednesday seemed to be an injury prone game as several players were sent to the sidelines
to regroup and stretch. It started out as a battle of unexpected starting QB's with Bunker on one side and Lowden getting
the start over Fritz on the other. The game started out even and played pretty much that will to the half. Miranto and Hosking
seemed to be the go-to guys in the beginning, but in the second have Jaccarino and Fritz scored several TD's all on screens
and short pass plays. Late in the second half Fritz caught a screen pass with one man to beat, TJ Baker closed in
to make the tackle but Fritz threw Baker into the ground by his head and walked into the endzone. Despite a late
surge by Fritz's team it wasn't enough as Miranto picked up the win 18-14. Trabes Traber made his first appearance
in SMF, and proved to be a force as he had several catches for TD's and also a couple INT's. Making back to back INT's late
in the second have to seal the win, Traber picks up the defensive MVP and the Rookie of the week in his first SMF game.
This his the first time in history a player has received two awards in one weekk.
Saturday Decmeber 31st
Saturday the last day of the year couldnt have started out any better than it did with a
dozen superstar SMF players dueling it out in the snow. Miranto kept his word and chose Fritz with his first pick as
expected, but it might not have been the best decision of the day as the MVP proved to be the second overall pick in Cody
Balling. While producing most of his teams offense Balling sliced and diced through Miranto's team defense and pounded his
way forward to a win. Scott Miranto picked it up in the second have by making several long plays out of screen passes, but
it wasnt enough to get the W. Pacana wins another close one 18-16.
Monday December 26th
Many people wanted an original name for this game other than the Xmas bowl. The SMF comissioner
wanted to stay away from a lawsuit as well, but the title of the game was decided prior to kickoff as the new Mud Bowl got
under way. Both teams came out firing and Fritz led his team to an 8-5 lead at halftime. Pat Smith seemed to be
the target mostly in the first have, but in the second half, the new "Lambeau Field" created a problem for QB Dan Fritz.
The teams fought hard but in the end Pacana came out on top 18-16, making Fritz suffer his third loss in a row. Recently
Fritz's teams have been playing much like the real Packers, and the seemed to be a littl Brett Favre in him today, as he made
too many mistakes to get the win. It is unsure if Fritz will retire after this season but many feel he's got a championship
left in him.
Thursday November 24th
Turkey Bowl time again, and once again exciting and resulted in a tight finish. Russell,
Pacana, Miller, Koneizcny, Baker, Snyder, Jablonski, and Brian Johnson cam out victorious 16-13. The game went back and forth
all morning, with niether team leading by more than 1 TD. Late in the game with the score 11-9, Greg Jablonski jumped a hitch
route and somehow came up with the ball to put his team within the 10. They would eventually score. Throughout the game
the go-to players seemed to be Jaccarino and Johnson. Fritz and Jaccarino hooked up for multiple deep balls, while the
ball was also spread to miranto and gonyeau for some big plays as well. Koneczny finished with 17 fantasy points for his team,
while TJ Baker and Pacana also made some big plays. But in the end Jablonski proved to be the MVP. Russell was kept fairly
quiet due to Jordan Bunkers lock-down defense.
Monday July 4th
Chuck Cino was in a place that he had never been before, the loss column. For the first time
in his SMF career, Chuck was beaten as Miranto, Russell, Jaccarino, Vollmer, Balling, and Snyder came out on top 18-14. Fritz's
team was up 7-5 early, but a sore elbow prevented him from throwing for part of the game. The brought in backup QB Matt Pacana,
but nothing seemed to work as three turnovers resulted. After that Mirantos team didnt look back as they took the American
flag home for the holiday.
Sunday Mar. 13
Undefeated record. That's what Chuck Cino continued on sunday morning. Pacana couldn't
stop him, he could only hope to contain him as Cino dropped 8 TD's. Fritz and Johnson rotated at QB and successfully completed
several deep balls to their receivers. Gonyeau was expected to make a big impact, but was shutdown pretty much for the game.
Jaccarino let only a few passes get to Gonyeau, and allowed slim yardage gains after the catch. Russell made several
big plays for his team breaking many tackles on his way to the endzone. Fritz's team started off strong and kept at least
a TD between his team and Russell's team. Russell and Pacana made a late rally and stopped the other team a few times, but
too little too late as Fritz came out on top 16-13.
Sunday Mar. 6
14 TD's, 0 INT's........those were the passing stats of Dan Fritz sunday morning. Fritz
completed a high percentage of his passes without a TO. Hitting Baker for 7 TD's (career high), Fritz lead his team to victory
once again. Jablonski returned to SMF, with a star performance as expected. Jablonski picked off one pass, deflected several,
and caught a high percentage of the teams passes, while also scoring a few TD's. The other team didnt have much of a passing
game, although the team did rush for several large gains, using the triple headed backfield of Miranto, Russell, and Hosking.
Miranto had severall 99 yd rushes for TD's which breaks a SMF record for rushing yards. Russell and Pacana both were slowed
down by injuries and were fairly quiet. Pacana did pick off a pass and return it for a TD. At the end of the game the score
showed Fritz's team on top 16-11.
Sunday Feb. 27
A game that was hyped up to be one of the best ever, turned out uneven.
Fritz and his team started off well, and had a solid cushion at halftime. The second half was no different as Fritz and Cino
took control once again and never looked back as they prevailed, 18-10. Fritz played solid at the QB position with his precision
passing, hitting his speedster De La Cueva with several deep balls, dumped if off to Cino underneath. Also he found
Baker, Heaps, and Pacana cutting across the middle and connected with several drive saving catches. Miranto and
Russell disgusted with the score at the half, came to play in the second half and started by scoring on their first
drive. The momentum slightly shifted when Pacan caught a pass with his head turn and Miranto showed his Greatest hit
of the year caliber by lighting up pacana unexpectedly and threw him to the ground. Despite getting leveled Pacana
got up and was still able to play quality football for the rest of the game. Although the score doesnt show it but the
game seemed a lot closer by the way both teams were at each others throats.
Monday Feb. 21
Most games in the SMF league end up being pretty close. The first game of the doubleheader
on monday was no exception. In a back and forth game Fritz and his team came out on top 16-15. Pacana volunteered to play
all-time QB with an odd number of players. With the score 15-14, Baker picked off Pacanas pass in the endzone and had
a chance to put the game away. Instead Baker decided to return it, Pacana in frustration of his badly thrown pass hit baker
and forced a fumble. The recovered the ball, and scored on the next play. The score was tied when baker hit Jake Hosking for
the game winning TD. In the second game, fatigue became a key factor. With fetterman gone pacana took his place on Russell's
team and proved to be an offensive force. Pacana and Russell led their team to a short victory 8-5. Johnson played QB well
for his team hitting pacana for several TD. With the scored 3-1 Fritz picked off two passes and his team finished on
the offensive end. But the comeback wasnt enough with the solid team defense played by the other team which caused several
5 and outs.
Sunday Feb. 13
Joe Russell and jake Hosking led their team to victory sunday morning. Russell, had a few
early interceptions in the first half, and made some key catches to help his team offensively. Jake Hosking scored most of
the teams touchdowns, and made an interception in the first half.Chris De La Cueva improved his performance from last week,
as he became a key component in his teams victory.Mark Jaccarino also stepped it up by doubling his touchdowns from last week.
On the losing end scott miranto and bryan gonyeau had a good game on their return to the league. Miranto made many tackles
and had a few early TD's as well. Bryan gonyeau kept his teams hopes alive by picking off a late pass and returning it for
a TD to tie the game.Despite the offensive performance of Dan Fritz, and the precision passing of TJ Baker, the team couldnt
get the win.
Sunday Feb. 6
In a nailbiter, Dan Fritz, Chuck Cino, Mark Jaccarino, Dan Zuch, Rob Johnson, and TJ Baker
won the superbowl, on 5th and goal with the score tied at 13. Baker threw a short pass across the middle, and chuck cino broke a
tackle as he pounded his way into the endzone for the win. After a rough first half at QB, Fritz contributed to his team at
the reciever position.Jaccarino started a rally at the beginning of the second half by scoring his first TD of the game. They
came back from an 8-4 deficit at halftime. Solid defensive play stopped Joe Russell on a 5th and goal run up the middle to
cause the turnover.Matt pacana and Nick fetterman were the key players offensively and defensively for their team.
